Best Time to Find a New Job is NOW!

The media bombards us daily with how poorly the economy is doing, which translates into “This is the worst time to look for a new position,” and “No one is hiring.” This couldn’t be more misleading. My experience has been that this is the best time to find your next position. Why? Employers have held off long enough to fill vacant positions, and they need to expand their organizations. 

There will always be open positions; people are moving around each day. Here’s why… 

• Organizations expand and add new positions.

• Organizations merge with and acquire other companies, and they may downsize and recruit simultaneously.

• Entrepreneurs create new companies—creating new openings.

• People accept promotions.

• People retire.

• People take lateral moves.

• People move to different cities and states.

• People decide not to return to work after family leave (new babies or other health issues) even though their positions were held open for them.

• People die each day—not to be morbid, but it’s true. 

These lifecycles occur in every organization and company, leaving openings for you.  When you hear that there aren’t any jobs, read this list again. You need only ONE position, and the best time to look is when you are ready. If you’re ready, then the best time is NOW. 

So, what’s stopping you? Don’t let the economy drive your job search. It’s time to put yourself in the driver’s seat.
