CJ Wolf, a private compliance consultant and faculty member at Brigham Young University, Idaho, is the author of the chapter focused on compliance training in ATD Talent Development and Training in Healthcare Handbook. In this spotlight Q&A, learn more about Wolf and his contribution to the book.

How have your experiences in compliance training shaped the best practices you shared?

Before I knew there was a name for adult learning theory—andragogy—I discovered some of the best practices through trial and error as I would try to develop compliance training. I learned about educational psychology and the scientific study of these principles as I completed a master’s degree in education.

How do you foresee advancement of talent development within this area? For example, do you see this area flourishing for employee or organization development?

Effective compliance programs recognize training as a key component. I foresee compliance professionals seeking out formal training in becoming better trainers and educators. Principles of good education can be taught, learned, and practiced!

What is something unexpected you learned while working on this book?

I was impressed with the amount of formal review through various stages of book development. There is a lot going on other than just authors writing their content.

Is there something professional or personal you are proud of accomplishing in the past year?

In July 2021, I was on the cover and highlighted in an interview for the Health Care Compliance Association’s monthly publication, Compliance Today magazine.

What is a fun fact about yourself or one sentence of advice you’d like to share?

Joseph Joubert said, “To teach is to learn twice.” Anyone who has prepared to teach a concept or class knows this to be true!
