Seventy-five years. That’s how long ATD has been producing its flagship publication, TD magazine. Since its launch in 1945 as Industrial Training News with the first full volume year in 1946, the now-monthly periodical has grown in readership, earned dozens of awards, and expanded into the digital space with podcasts, an app, and social media.

The September 2021 issue, available on-site for attendees, celebrates this significant anniversary. A photo essay features memorable covers and calls attention to some of the many important topics and trends ATD has examined over the years. An infographic highlights facts and figures, such as when the magazine launched its first digital issue and how long readers hold onto their print copies.

“Since its inception, ATD’s member publication has continuously been committed to delving into industry best practices, emerging trends, and pressing issues. Readers have relied on the magazine for insights and inspiration from thought leaders as well as their own career development,” says Vanessa St. Gerard, TD magazine editor-in-chief. Although the magazine’s dissemination channels have increased and its covers, contributors, and content change monthly, St. Gerard wants readers to know that the magazine’s mission and focus remain steadfast.

Readers can take part in celebrating TD’s anniversary via social media. The magazine’s Facebook and Twitter pages as well as ATD’s Instagram and LinkedIn accounts have been and will continue to feature anniversary-related content using #TDmag75th. Throughout this yearlong commemorative social media campaign, readers and followers will see #ThrowbackThursday posts that spotlight articles from the magazine’s archives and #QuickTipsFriday posts with pointers culled from TD’s staple Quick Tips column. Readers also can test their magazine knowledge by responding to a mix of lighthearted and thought-provoking questions sprinkled throughout the social media feeds.
