Those paying attention to developments in the world of remote work noticed an eyebrow-raising reversal of position from one of the world’s biggest retailers. Amazon recently announced many of its tech and corporate workers will be able to continue working remotely indefinitely, just so long as they can come into the office when necessary. This differs significantly from Amazon’s previous position that most employees would be expected in physical office spaces at least three days a week starting in January. “We expect that there will be teams that continue working mostly remotely, others that will work some combination of remotely and in the office, and still others that will decide customers are best served having the team work mostly in the office,” wrote Andy Jassy, Amazon’s CEO, in a company blog post. “We’re intentionally not prescribing how many days or which days—this is for directors to determine with their senior leaders and teams.”
