If you’re among the millions looking for a new position post-pandemic, brush up on your interviewing skills. Many candidates stumble over tough questions asked by hiring managers if they’re not careful. One of the trickiest to field is, “Tell me about yourself.” This question flusters some candidates, which can lead to a long, rambling answer that wastes time and energy. Keep your response short, and highlight strengths and accomplishments. “With this question, hiring managers are really asking, ‘Why are you sitting in front of me today? If you’re so good, why are you looking for a job?’” explains Jeff Hyman, an executive recruiter for 25 years. And speaking of accomplishments, candidates are often too humble in their responses or can’t quantify their accomplishments’ impacts. Keep your responses concrete, and illustrate them with results.
