There are many reasons why employee training might not be as effective as it could be, but one of the primary drivers of learner dissatisfaction is unengaging training materials. Can corporate training ever be fun? While professional development will never be trip-to-an-amusement-park exciting, there are ways HR professionals can make sessions more satisfying for trainees. One way to do so is to introduce gamification elements to training modules. Reward employees symbolically and allow them to “level up“ in their training. Many employees find this rewarding because it allows them to understand their progress and compare notes against colleagues. So, ensure your training has a social element. Allow learners to collaborate with one another, rather than training in a vacuum. Discussion-based training where learners ask questions of one another to reach a consensus is more engaging than clicking through slides on a computer screen. Interactivity and variety are keys to making training more engaging, and collaborating will make materials more meaningful.
