Leaders are concerned about the new trend of quiet quitting, but this phenomenon isn’t new. At heart, quiet quitters are disengaged employees, and there is a shockingly high number of them. According to Gallup polls, at least 50 percent of the US workforce is quiet quitting, and the figure is likely larger than that. Want to reverse the trend so employees want to engage with your organization? Focus on your culture. This is a time of transition. Many organizations are rethinking their employee value propositions. Consider if your culture is delivering on the promises it made—both explicit and implicit—or have your employees been let down? If there’s misalignment between your culture and what your organization claims to value, employees will either leave or do the minimum amount of work. Make sure you’re tracking and measuring your culture. Use quantitative and qualitative measures to fully understand the ins and outs of your employees’ experiences and beliefs about the organization. And with that knowledge, make sure you can commit to doing the work required for change.
