Engagement Efforts Need to be Individualized

One of the biggest takeaways of the 2020 global health crisis was that employee engagement is critical to the success of a business through times of turmoil. Employees who aren’t fully present at work cost American companies more than 225 billion dollars per year, so it pays to prioritize employee engagement efforts—quite literally. But how do traditional employee engagement efforts translate to the new normal of remote and hybrid work? Were the old methods even impactful to begin with? Gone are the days of offering perks and other half-hearted employee engagement strategies. They didn’t work then, and they won’t work now. If you want to improve engagement in your workforce, you must start by connecting your employees’ needs to your company’s goals. One-size-fits-all approaches will not work here. Individualized engagement approaches are what’s needed. Also, remember that engagement is a two-way street. Both managers and employees need to take an active role in engagement, and honest conversations need to be had to make sure the previously mentioned individualized efforts are successful.
