It’s 4:30 on a Friday afternoon and I’m finishing up a few things at the office before I head out for a fun-filled weekend. As I scan my email inbox one last time before shutting things down, a new message appears with an alarming subject line: “HELP!” Hoping this will require something simple on my end—but realizing that the capitalization and exclamation point probably mean it’s something serious—I open the message and discover that a colleague needs me to review and edit some product documentation that our organization promised to deliver to clients over the upcoming weekend. Hearing about this deliverable for the first time, I assume the document will be relatively short and easy to review, but as I open it and begin scanning, I quickly realize that my weekend will be getting off to later start.
