Whether they are joining the company from an external source or were promoted internally, new leaders must be onboarded by current employees. The first step in onboarding a new boss is establishing clear expectations and goals. Start by proactively scheduling a meeting to discuss the new boss’s objectives, preferences, and leadership style to create a shared understanding of what success looks like. The most important thing is to have employees establish a strong working relationship with the new boss. This involves being proactive in communication, seeking collaboration opportunities, and demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt. This can also be an opportunity to take advantage of the new manager’s fresh perspective to drive positive organizational change. This involves seeking their input and feedback on organizational processes and culture and using their insights to implement changes that drive growth and innovation. Effective onboarding of a new leader requires proactive communication, relationship building, and a willingness to learn and adapt.
