In business, change is essential for success. That rings true for both organizations and individuals, especially in transformative moments such as the Great Resignation and the global health crisis. To stay current, upskilling is critical. There are two main objectives to upskilling your workforce. First, it will demonstrate to employees how much you value them and, as a result, help with retention efforts. Second, by constantly improving their skillsets, your organization will remain competitive. But how do you establish a meaningful upskilling program? Start with evaluation. Assess what skills employees have and where gaps exist. Research the trends in your industry, understand where organizations will be in the next five years, and set goals based on those benchmarks. Sponsor training based on employee feedback, and then re-evaluate. Remember, upskilling is an iterative process during which employees are the stakeholders.
