It's no secret that employees tend to dislike cybersecurity training. There are, however, several ways leaders can better deliver this critical training. Start by acknowledging that employees view such training as boring, irrelevant, and time-consuming, leading to disinterest and little motivation to learn. Successful training uses gamification or simulation to create more interactivity and engagement. This approach allows employees to learn and practice cybersecurity skills in a fun and immersive way, which generally leads to higher levels of information retention. Another solution is personalizing training to fit an individual employee's needs and job functions. By tailoring training to the specific risks and threats that employees are likely to encounter, it becomes more relevant and meaningful. It's also important to consider the frequency of training. Shorter, regular sessions are far more effective than one marathon session presented yearly. Finally, leadership buy-in and support are critical for ensuring employees take cybersecurity seriously. Leaders must set the tone for the organization by prioritizing cybersecurity and promoting a culture of security awareness.
