The role of managers has become increasingly challenging, and many managers are facing issues such as disengagement, burnout, a desire to seek new jobs, and a feeling that their organizations do not prioritize their well-being. This decline in manager well-being has been particularly pronounced since 2021. What’s causing this, though? Organizations are undergoing significant changes, including restructuring teams, budget cuts, and additional job responsibilities for employees. Economic uncertainty has also led to layoff fears in some industries, affecting managers’ workloads and responsibilities. This is a significant problem in many organizations. Employees’ needs are often unmet, leading to lower engagement levels. Key factors contributing to this trend are unclear expectations at work, a sense of disconnection from the organization’s mission, and a lack of opportunities for development. Employees are also seeking better work-life balance and feel that their employers don’t prioritize their well-being. Remote and hybrid work arrangements have created additional challenges for managers, who must navigate the complexities of coordinating, teamwork, and maintaining company culture in these environments. To alleviate the challenges faced by managers, the article recommends improving leadership communication to keep managers informed and involved in organizational decisions. They should also provide more training and development opportunities for managers to enhance their skills in employee engagement and performance development. Organizations must also offer coaching support to prevent burnout among managers and foster trust and open communication. This will help build a community of shared accountability among managers to enhance collaboration and mentorship.
