After two years, the world’s great experiment with remote work has yielded some pretty surprising results, especially in the employee productivity arena. Traditionalists believed that allowing workers to go remote would result in a slump in productivity, but the opposite has actually proven true. According to a recent study, remote workers put in a full hour more time than their in-office and hybrid counterparts, and traditional office workers were actually the least productive. In fact, 90 percent of remote employees report the same or higher levels of productivity working from home compared to working in a traditional office space, and 55 percent report working longer hours. However, remote work is not without its drawbacks. Remote employees are more likely to report loneliness and a declining work-life balance, and many grapple with mental health challenges. Burnout is common, and these issues might push some employees to seek alternate working conditions.
