A major issue in corporate training―especially in technical industries―is the lack of understanding around the basic models of teaching and training. What are they, how do they work, and when are they best utilized? There are two fundamental models: pedagogy and andragogy. Twenty students sit in a classroom, silently observing. The instructor stands up front, behind a podium, going over key points on a PowerPoint. Over the next two hours, the teacher’s voice is the only one to be heard. The teacher describes every key point in detail, while the students sit and take notes. With five minutes left before the end of the class, the teacher asks if there are any questions. No hands are raised.
