You may be leaving your position to pursue another opportunity. You may be leaving a toxic team or poor manager. You may have been laid off. Regardless of the reason for your departure, it's important to leave in the right way. The way workforces operate is changing dramatically, and many organizations are open to boomerang employees —those who leave for a time and then return. Even if you're uninterested in potentially returning, it won't help to leave on a bad note. Regardless of the situation, be sure to give plenty of notice and make your exit transition as painless as possible. This might require training your replacement and documenting processes. Keep in touch with people from your old organization that could refer you for new opportunities, and follow what your previous company is doing.
