The Great Resignation has affected most businesses. If you find that your employee churn is reaching unreasonable levels, it could be an indication that your organization’s management team needs a wake-up call. To solve the problem, you first need to understand it. This involves making an honest assessment of how to interact with employees and how to better support them. Conduct anonymous employee surveys and exit interviews. Create space for employees to be honest and open, and as difficult as it might be, do not respond to criticism with defensiveness. Critical themes need to be the core focus of leadership, as these are the experiences that frustrate employees enough to push them away. By taking the pulse of employees, you can also reveal underutilized talent and unused skills in your workforce. Focus less on the credentials an employee might have, and more on their untapped potential. If an employee is about to leave, it might be because their role wasn’t aligned with their skills in the first place, leaving them unchallenged and frustrated. Put people at the center of your business strategy, and watch employee turnover go down.
