The mental health of American workers is the elephant in the room. It has declined to the point where nearly 80 percent say they are concerned about themselves. Three-quarters of these folks cite stress and burnout as their biggest challenges. To remedy this, organizations need to rethink their role in protecting the fragile mental states of some of their most vulnerable workers. To do this, leaders must commit to supporting mental health and deliver on that promise. Everyone needs to reshape the organizational culture so the stigma associated with mental health issues is dismissed. Leaders must decide what types of support and care prevent their workers’ mental states from declining and how to intervene if needed. One of the key factors in helping employees better navigate stress and burnout is establishing connections and community. Your employees are your most important investment, and they need to be cared for.
