It’s no secret that great managers are crucial for organizations striving to create a thriving work environment. And the numbers back this notion up. According to Gallup, managers account for at least 70 percent of the variance in employee engagement scores. Engaged employees are more likely to be committed to their work, demonstrate higher productivity levels, and contribute to positive organizational outcomes. In contrast, poor management can lead to disengagement, lower productivity, and increased turnover. But what exactly makes a great manager is difficult to nail down. However, there are some key behaviors and qualities exhibited by great managers. First and foremost, they establish clear expectations and goals, ensuring that employees understand their roles and responsibilities. They provide regular feedback and recognition, motivating employees to perform at their best. Great managers also focus on individual strengths and talents, leveraging them to optimize team performance. These managers invest time in developing their employees’ skills and providing growth opportunities. They act as coaches and mentors, offering guidance and support to help their team members reach their full potential. Great managers also foster a positive work environment, promoting open communication, trust, and collaboration among team members.
