Technology is advancing in all aspects of our lives, including the employee training industry. There are many benefits of adopting immersive technologies for workplace training—not only will employees spend less time training and more time doing, but they will get more out of training sessions and retain more information. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) training are well positioned to take training to the next level. For one, they reduce risk. Employees are free to make mistakes in VR and AR environments without creating real-world consequences. This means they can practice their skills and build confidence in ways that couldn’t be performed in real life. Time to train is also dramatically reduced using VR and AR. Studies have shown that these technologies significantly improve knowledge attainment and retention and increase the motivation to learn. For example, a training module employed at Walmart in which more than 1 million employees were trained using VR effectively reduced training time from eight hours to 15 minutes.
