Ted Smith Joins Board of Directors for the Association for Talent Development

The Association for Talent Development (ATD) announces that Ted Smith, Chief of Civic Innovation for the Louisville Metro Government in Kentucky, has joined the Association’s board of directors. He will serve a three-year term, 2016-2018.

Ted was appointed Louisville’s Chief of Civic Innovation by the city’s Mayor, Greg Fischer. He is an Open Government/Open Data champion and is responsible for efforts to expand the entrepreneurial and innovation economy of Louisville. His city-wide project to better understand asthma, AIRLouisville, won the 2012 IBM Smarter City Challenge. His work with the local workforce board, KentiuckianaWorks, has included the largest community-based coding skill development program called CodeLouisville, and his leadership on Mayor Fischer’s “Cradle-to-Career” initiative is enabling the city to pave the way for a thriving 21st century economy. Prior to working in city government, he was appointed as the Senior Innovation Advisor in the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator of Health IT.

Ted has passion for the many ways digital media has changed consumer expectations for health science information. He served as Executive Vice President, Research and Patient Engagement for HealthCentral after the company he co-founded in 2005, MedTrackAlert, was acquired in June 2008. Earlier in his career, Ted directed Accenture’s Technology Education program in St. Charles, IL bringing new technologies to skill development for over 30,000 consultants globally.

He holds a bachelor of science from Allegheny College, a master’s degree and doctorate of philosophy degree in Cognitive Science from Miami University (OH), and a post-doctorate from MIT in Aeronautics and Astronautics.
