Networking for People Who Hate Networking, Second Edition: A Field Guide for Introverts, the Overwhelmed, and the Underconnected
Berrett-Koehler, 192 pp., $18.95
So much of career discussion is centered around how to become a great leader or scratch and claw your way to the job of your dreams, but we seem to unconsciously assume extroversion. If you don't fall into that box, Zack, a self-proclaimed introvert, is here to help you. The title of the first chapter says it all: "Welcome to your field guide" for succeeding in your career as an introvert. Zack examines and smashes the "dusty old rules" of standard networking advice. You don't have to become an extrovert or even learn how to fake it. In fact, you can harness the traits that make you hate networking to forge an approach even more effective than traditional techniques.
Powerhouse: 13 Teamwork Tactics that Build Excellence and Unrivaled Success
Kristine Lilly, John D. Gillis Jr., and Lynette Gillis
Greenleaf Book Group, 224 pp., $24.95
This book may be about women's soccer, but the authors clearly articulate that the team's success has had more to do with their team chemistry—starting with Mia Hamm, who wrote the book's forward. There are other player Q&As sprinkled throughout the book, which is split into four parts (transform, empower, achieve, and motivate). Each section lays the groundwork for creating a successful team, including the "Thirteen Teamwork Tactics for Your Business." Often, sports are the best way to show teamwork in action. These tactics have worked for the soccer team, and they may be just as effective for your company.
