While teaching basic college speech fundamentals to entering engineering freshmen, a problem developed in the form of complaints from my students: "I can't think of any idea for a speech," or "why can't I speak about the same subject I spoke about last week?" or finally, "you mean that capital punish-ment isn't a new subject idea?" After several "My Dog Spot" speeches, the author went running for help and found it from Robert Powell of the Purdue Adult Supervisory Institute, who developed one of the first courses in creativity at IBM, and from Alex Os-born, the author of many books on cre-ativity and president of the Creative Education Foundation. With their help and applied research of my own, the following course was developed.
