As president of the Charlotte, North Carolina, chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, Mary Elizabeth Murphy is devoting her term this year to helping members develop themselves as learning leaders and gain credibility in the workplace. After a year of providing technical training in a corporate environment, the company downsized and Murphy's position was eliminated. Murphy also worked with the Midwest Women's Development Center in Chicago, Illinois, teaching life and business skills to displaced homemakers.
