There is something for everyone in this month's issue of TD magazine.
All talent development professionals can get behind the cover story, which examines how to build a structured on-the-job training program that can provide high-quality, experience-based learning in a compressed amount of time. As author Paul Smith writes, "The problem \[with many on-the-job training programs\] often is not a lack of developmental efforts; it is that such efforts are disconnected and siloed—to the extent that there may be little, if any, overlap or connectedness among them even when the same individual employee is the beneficiary."
This issue also includes an article that highlights recent research on talent development professionals' salaries and benefits, along with their methods of skill development. How do you measure up against your colleagues?
We have a technology article on chatbots and a management piece that spells out how to coach your employees to teach them the soft skills to be effective. "As the impact of the generational shift in the workforce becomes more prevalent, the most common challenges for all managers are those that involve teaching soft skills to new, younger employees. Said another way, it's the challenges of teaching self-management," writes author Bruce Tulgan.
In addition, there is a government article on improving engagement and a sales article that explores how to develop and grow a one-person sales enablement function.
The diversity of topics in this month's issue highlights the vast roles and responsibilities of talent development professionals.
