By 2022, the Oakland Zoo experienced a noticeable dip in team performance, synergy, and managerial effectiveness that posed a risk to the zoo's core values of animal welfare, visitor experience, and conservation efforts. To counteract that and to keep pace with the evolving landscape of organization development, the people and culture team created an employee engagement and growth initiative to correct a discernible pattern of internal performance gaps, such as conflict resolution and communication issues.
