Put down the laser pointer. Turn off the projector. Sit down, shut up, and listen. That's not exactly how we are taught to be good trainers, but most of us need to do more of just that. While much has been written about how trainers can better communicate facts, figures, and philosophies to a group of adult students, we often avoid the fact that communication is a two-way process. Sometimes the best thing to do is to stop talking and listen. Our students will tell us a lot of things, including how we can better train them.
