When asked about the role of learning in the integration of 190,000 employees from Federated Department Stores Inc. and May Co. as a result of their merger in 2005, he claims that learning has a great impact although both companies shared different cultures. He admits that differentiation of assortments of products is their first priority. He asserts that learning is critical.
