The article reports on the findings from annual Electronic Monitoring and Surveillance Survey conducted by the American Management Association (AMA) and the ePolicy Institute regarding the trend of companies monitoring employees' electronic mail (e-mail) and phone usage in the U.S. It shows that more than one-quarter of employers have fired employees for misusing email. It stated that termination as a result of improper email usage was broken down into violation of any company policy, use of inappropriate or offensive language, and breach of confidentiality.
