The article presents information on racial bias in career development. One must become aware of one's biases. All biases, even the most subconscious ones, periodically toss up a signal to their presence in the form of a thought. One's task is to make a mental note of that first assumption. Once one notice the bias, one can name it and target it for extinction. The reason people are reluctant to let go of biases is that they carry with them certain secondary gains. Some of those gains are real, many are illusionary. But in all cases, one must identify those alleged benefits and weigh them against the damage that biases inflict on one's career.
