The article offers information on the impact of line length in publications on reading and learning. Short line lengths are easier to read and retain. Research suggests that line length of 5 to 6 inches are best for reading print material. Scientists at International Business Machines Corp.'s research center have studied the physiological lengths of line lengths. Eye-gazing tracking system has been used to measure reading behavior. The company used the WebGazeAnalyzer in the experiment they performed. The results included that narrow paragraphs have better retention than wide paragraphs. Wide paragraphs reduce time spent in reading and decreases retention of the material.
