Celebrating Our Diamond Anniversary
It's hard to imagine how many different topics this publication—which started as Industrial Training News and six name changes later is now TD magazine—has explored over the span of 75 years. Just as the training and talent development profession has evolved during that time, so too has the Association for Talent Development's flagship publication.
Looking solely at the wide range of cover stories we've published for three-quarters of a century offers a glimpse of the emerging trends, promising practices, notable methods, and pressing issues that have steered and affected the industry over time. For the following pages, we identified just a handful of the various topics that have become constants in the magazine—and the profession. The cover images we selected are among the standouts in terms of subject, design style, and relevancy that illustrate the magazine's evolution during the past 75 years.
Whether it's supervisory leadership, executive leadership, or team leadership, we've covered all the bases. Regardless of the company, there will always be leaders—whether they have the title or not—and the need to develop those individuals' skills.
Proving the value of training starts with measurement. But evaluating training doesn't always come easily. Of course, there's the Kirkpatrick method, which debuted in the magazine as a four-part series starting in the 1950s. However, there's so much more to explore about proving the worth of your work.
Although events related to social justice and racial equity in 2020 sparked an uproar in the US and other nations in terms of DEI, diversity in the workplace—regarding race as well as gender, age, ethnicity, and beyond—is by no means a new topic for the magazine.
Keeping up with the latest technologies—both in your personal and professional life—can no doubt be a challenge. As different learning technologies have emerged, we've always kept an eye on what's new, what's working, what's trending, and what's on the horizon.
As companies and their workforces become more global, talent development practices must keep up. With a readership that spans the world, the magazine has kept the effects of globalization front and center.
An eye-catching cover entices readers to pick up the magazine. These are some of our favorites, exploring topics of all kinds.
