The article focuses on the study conducted by the Institute of Executive Development and the Alexcel Group entitled "Executive Transitions" which shows that organizations need to improve their practices and policies on executive onboarding procedures in the U.S. The study is designed to evaluate the methods used by organizations in onboarding or promoting employee into another position. It cites that 30% of senior executives transferred into another company, with 21% of them transferring within the same company are not successful in their positions. It notes that the ramp-up time for both internal and external hiring are strongly different. The study collects data from 150 executives and professionals across 11 countries and 18 different industries.
