In this article, the author presents some tips on how to initiate and be a part of elevator talk. In the elevator the author met a colleague on a Friday afternoon. He describes the conversation torturous. It made him think why elevator banters are tepid. First, it seems to him that tepid elevator banter results largely from two main flaws in the elevator's design: the total entrapment and consequential claustrophobic anxiety of its passengers, and the chamber's austere and therefore uninspiring decor. Simple improvements could make the ride more entertaining and might spark-off more interesting conversation.
