Gamification is a powerful strategy for influencing and motivating people in the workplace. Unfortunately, many people think that it means adding a game to their corporate training course or letting their employees 'play' all day. Simply defined, gamification uses game attributes and dynamics in a nongame context. It does not mean making a computer or a video game, but deconstructing the psychology of games in an authentic way to drive the behavior you want or need. Using case studies from real-life programs, this session will show you how and why gamification works, in what context it is most effective, and the limits to this approach. Through anecdotal and empirical data, you will experience the good, the bad, and the ugly of gamification strategy design.
