Dow Jones and the Columbia Journalism School have expanded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Media Collective by adding an international component to boost the next generation of Black journalists' awareness of global opportunities and increase diversity in newsrooms worldwide.
Now in its second year, the HBCU Media Collective allows fellows to travel to London for five days to learn from professionals at News Corp properties such as The Sun and The Times.
"The new global aspect of our program will offer our 2024 fellows with invaluable insights from world-class institutions, and we anticipate this immersive experience will be treasured by them for years to come," says Brent Jones, senior vice president of training, culture, and community at Dow Jones.
Deans and faculty from collective members Howard University, Morehouse College, Morgan State University, Spelman College, North Carolina A&T State University, and Florida A&M University selected the eight fellows for this year's program. From May 29 to June 12, the fellows will work alongside professional journalists at _Barron's, MarketWatch,_and The Wall Street Journal to gain real-world experience, learn financial reporting skills, and cover news in real time.
In addition to the hands-on experience they gain, the program's fellows will take graduate-level courses at Columbia University.
