The construct of employee engagement has become ubiquitous in surveys, and for many organizations it is the primary focus of the survey. Engagement is typically measured via a defined set of survey questions, and engagement scores can be calculated for any subunit, team, or demographic group defined in the organization's hierarchy. Engagement scores can provide a helpful metric for the organization; the scores can be tracked over time to determine change and can be compared with external benchmarks to determine whether the organization's scores are within an expected range or significantly ahead of or behind the pack.
