Dr. David Rock coined the term ‘Neuroleadership’ and is the Director of the NeuroLeadership Institute, a global initiative bringing neuroscientists and leadership experts together to build a new science for leadership development. With operations in 24 countries, the Institute also helps large organizations operationalize brain research in order to develop better leaders and managers.David co-edits the NeuroLeadership Journal and heads up an annual global summit. He has written many of the central academic and discussion papers that have defined the Neuroleadership field. He is the author of the business best-seller Your Brain at Work (Harper Business, 2009), as well as Quiet Leadership (Harper Collins, 2006) and the textbook C_oaching with the Brain in Mind (_Wiley & Sons, 2009). He blogs for the Harvard Business Review, Fortune Magazine, Psychology Today, and the Huffington Post, and is quoted widely in the media about leadership, organizational effectiveness, and the brain.Academically, David is on the faculty and advisory board of CIMBA, an international business school based in Europe. He has been a guest lecturer at many universities including Oxford University’s Said Business School. He is on the board of the BlueSchool, an initiative in New York City building a new approach to education. He received his professional doctorate in the Neuroscience of Leadership from Middlesex University in 2010.

After a 15-year career in Direct Marketing, Claude founded Ideaction, Inc., a company that has successfully helped organizations and individuals become more innovative for more than 25 years. Through his leading research on the practical application of innovation in organizations, Claude has emerged as one of North America’s top authorities on innovation outside of R&D. Claude was the founding Program Director for the Centre of Excellence in Innovation Management at the Schulich Executive Education Centre, part of the Schulich Business School. In 2011 he co-authored with Dr. David Weiss  Innovative Intelligence: The Art and Practice of Leading Sustainable Innovation in Your Organization (Wiley 2011).

Applying Social Tools to Learning

David Szeptycki is the head of strategy and policy implementation within York Region’s environmental services department. He works in the commissioner’s office and leads cross-functional special project teams to deliver on departmental priorities. He oversees the development of council reports and provides strategic policy advice on a broad range of public works services. David regularly engages with the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Infrastructure, neighboring regional governments and local municipalities to advance municipal government priorities. He is also responsible for implementing environmental service’s sustainable leadership program, which endeavors to increase innovation and collaboration across the department. In 2011 and 2012, David led a creative and energetic team that raised more than $800,000 for United Way York Region. He was recognized in 2012 as United Way York Region's Volunteer of the Year. David will be presenting on August 18, 2014, at the 2014 American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Congress and Exposition in Toronto, Ontario, on social media’s influence on public works. The Regional Municipality of York has been named one of the top employers in the Greater Toronto Area and the country for its progressive human resources practices. This serves to confirm what its dedicated staff have always known: York Region is not only a great place to live, it's a great place to work.
