Jason Sturges is a senior learning and development associate for Biofire Diagnostics. Previously, he worked as a project manager for instructional design and content development within ATD Education, where he worked with designers, subject matter experts, and facilitators to revise and update ATD’s robust professional development curriculum—as well as teamed up with the best in the field to bring new content to market. His research and outside consulting pursuits embrace the talent management and development, human resources and organizational design and development arenas.Jason received his undergraduate degree in business/information resource management (2004), and his Master of Education in adult learning (2012)—both from Westminster College—where he also teaches as an adjunct professor for the school of education. Jason remains active and committed to the profession, as he is a national member of the Association for Talent Development (formerly ASTD) and served on the Utah Chapter’s Board of Directors from 2010 through 2014. Jason Sturges currently is a Project Lead for AllenComm in Salt Lake City. Here, with a team of professional instructional designers, writers, motion & graphic artists along with programmers & developers, he works to insure learning solutions – both instructor led-and e-learning – are produced on-time and on-budget. Though he spends the majority of his time tracking project plans, milestones, deliverables and budgets for some of North Americas most recognizable brands, he also often gets to “get his hands dirty by backing-up instructional designers and e-learning developers on the team.Prior to his role at AllenComm, Jason was the Manager for Employee Development & Engagement for BioFire Diagnostics. In this role, he creates & manages comprehensive organizational training & development programs; sources, coordinates and develops/delivers relevant content; and assess & identifies knowledge & skill requirements at both an organizational level – and, in collaboration with managers – at a departmental level too. Additionally, he oversees programs and opportunities surrounding employee engagement, events and culture-building.Previous to BioFire, he was with the Education division at the Association for Talent Development (ATD) in Alexandria, Virginia, where he was a Sr. Project Manager for Content Development – focusing on instructional design. There he worked with designers, subject matter experts and facilitators to revise and update ATD’s robust professional development catalog – as well as teaming up with thought leaders in the field to bring new content & curriculum to market.Going even further back, Jason was with Myriad Genetics, Inc. and AlphaGraphics, Inc., both in Salt Lake City, Utah. At Myriad, he was charged with collaboratively developing tools and systems to solidify training, learning and organizational development throughout the company – including major projects with orientation/onboarding, e-Learning, leadership development and trainer development. While with AlphaGraphics, he was responsible for the logistical planning, coordination, execution, evaluation, improvement and developing the “experience factor” of the company’s new franchisee on-boarding and training program.As an avid reader and change agent, Jason’s research and consulting pursuits embrace the talent management/development, human resources, and organizational design & development arenas. Specific topics/projects in the past have included: corporate orientation/on-boarding, off-boarding, re-boarding, team development, trainer development, facilitation & presentation skills, coaching/mentoring, leadership development, program planning, and learning transfer.Jason received his BS in Business/Information Resource Management (2004), and his Master of Education in Adult Learning (2012) – both from Westminster College – where he continues to teach as an adjunct professor for the school of education. In 2017, Jason earned his CPTD (Certified Professional in Talent Development, formerly CPLP) credential, with an emphasis in instructional design. Jason remains active and committed to the profession, as he is a national and local member of the Association for Talent Development (formerly ASTD), is a repeat presenter at their industry conferences, and has served on the Utah chapter’s Board of Directors for over 7 years.
